Spring is finally here...longer days, warmer sunshine, and plenty of adventures with our dogs. But as the flowers bloom and pollen fills the air, some of our furry friends start showing signs of seasonal allergies. Just like us, dogs can struggle with pollen and other spring triggers, leaving them itchy, uncomfortable, and not quite themselves.
At Canine & Co, we see this often with our Social Club pups and boarding guests, so we wanted to share some tips on spotting the signs of allergies and how you can help your dog feel better this season.

Signs Your Dog Might Have Allergies
Not sure if your pup’s springtime discomfort is allergy-related? Here are the most common symptoms to look out for:
Gooey or runny eyes – just like hay fever in humans.
Itchy skin and dry patches – your dog might be scratching, rolling, or nibbling to find relief.
Red, sore skin between paw pads – often accompanied by constant licking or chewing.
If you notice one or more of these, there’s a good chance pollen could be the culprit.
What Can You Do To Help?
The good news is there are plenty of natural remedies and lifestyle tweaks that can make a big difference. Here are some options we use and recommend:
🌸 Support Their Immune System with Supplements
We’re big fans of Olive’s Kitchen Doggy Daily Superfood Supplement - in fact, we use it with our own dogs and for some boarding guests who struggle with pollen.
A sprinkle over their food each day can help balance the gut and support the immune system, making it easier for your pup to fight off allergy triggers. Consistency is key, and over time you’ll notice a real improvement. Check it out here
🌸 Try Natural Home Remedies
Sometimes the simplest solutions can bring quick relief. A few of our favourite tried-and-true remedies (recommended by our amazing Social Club supervisors!) include:
Apple cider vinegar & green tea rinse – suggested by Kelsey, this gentle wash can soothe itchy skin and calm irritation.
Manuka oil between the paw pads – Alyssa swears by this one! It helps clear up red, raw skin and reduces constant licking.
Epsom salt paw soaks – a few minutes of soaking can help reduce inflammation and bring much-needed relief.
Always patch test new remedies and make sure your dog doesn’t lick them off before they dry! 🌸 Cold Tea Bag Compress
If your dog’s eyes are red or puffy, a chilled, used black or green tea bag can act as a soothing compress. Hold it gently against their closed eyes for a few seconds to help reduce swelling and irritation. Make sure the tea bag is cool, damp (not dripping), and plain - no added flavours.
🌸 Rinse Off the Pollen
After walks through fields or bush tracks, give your dog a quick rinse and blow-dry to remove pollen from their coat and paws. This is a simple but effective trick to prevent pollen from settling on their bedding, furniture, or even your own pillows overnight.
🌸When to See the Vet
While home care and supplements can go a long way, sometimes the best option is a trip to the vet. Professional advice is essential if your dog is really uncomfortable. Vets can prescribe allergy medication or even give a quick injection that brings fast relief.
If you’re ever unsure, always reach out to your vet first.
🌼 Enjoying Spring with Your Pup 🌼
Allergies don’t have to put a damper on springtime fun. With the right care, your dog can enjoy sunny walks, playdates, and plenty of adventures without discomfort. Whether it’s a natural remedy, a sprinkle of Doggy Daily, or some vet-prescribed support, there are lots of ways to help your pup thrive this season.
From all of us at Canine & Co - here’s to a happy, healthy spring for you and your dogs! See you soon!🐶
